The Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center continues its free Candlelight Concert Series in February and March with two ensembles from the famed Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester.
On Saturday February 16, the museum will present The Ginastera Quartet performing works by Dvorak, Schubert, and Beethoven. The Ginastera Quartet is made up of undergraduates from the Eastman School of music. The group was formed in 2016 and has since performed as part of the “Eastman to Go” outreach program. Ryan Chen (violin), Alyssa Yuge (viola), Kendra Sobania (violin), and Adrienne Hyde (cello) have performed respectively across the United States from Colorado to New York.
The next concert, titled “The Great American Songbook,” will happen on Friday March 1 and will feature “Eastman to Go” Director Mark Kellogg and his quartet. Kellogg, a seasoned instructor and performer, just recently completed a 28-year tenure as a member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He is joined by Dr. Eric Schmitz (drums) and Danny Ziemann (bass), faculty members of SUNY Oswego; along with Dr. Christopher Azzara (piano), who is a current instructor at the Eastman School of Music along with Kellogg (trombone). The evening’s performance will include popular works by Richard Rogers, George Gershwin, and Pennsylvania-native Stephen Foster, whose “Beautiful Dreamer” was the title song of Marilyn Horne’s 1986 Grammy-nominated album of the same name.
