Listen to just a few notes from masterful pianist Sandro Russo, and his command of the instrument is undeniably mesmerizing. Excelling in works from the Romantic era, Russo’s charismatic phrasing and eloquent approach to melody will be on full display this Friday at Kilbourn Hall. Appearing as part of Eastman School of Music‘s Fernando Laires Piano Series, the solo artist will perform a recital of mostly French favorites. Selections include mazurkas by Frédéric Chopin, transcriptions of Claude Debussy’s “Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune” and Maurice Ravel’s “La Valse,” and Alexander Scriabin’s Sonata No. 10. Women’s Chorus to celebrate ‘Suffrage through Song’

The Women’s Chorus at the Eastman School of Music will present “Celebrating Suffrage through Song” at … The music will focus on the suffrage movement and women leaders throughout history, as well as mark the legacies of historic women such as Harriet Tubman, Emily Dickinson and Malala Yousafzai.
The program will include performances by Eastman’s Repertory Singers and the Eastman Chorale, conducted by William Weinert, Rayvon Moore and Connor Doran.
The Women’s Chorus, directed by Philip Silvey, associate professor of music education and chairman of the music teaching and learning department, is a select ensemble made up of Eastman music majors and women in other majors throughout the University of Rochester.

GLENS FALLS — The Hyperion String Quartet, which will celebrate its upcoming 20th anniversary, … The quartet is made up of Amanda Brin on violin, Jamecyn Morey on violin, William Hakim on viola, and Jonathan Brin on cello.
Formed at the Eastman School of Music, the Hyperion String Quartet was among the top 10 finalists at the seventh annual Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, Japan. The group has performed at New York City’s Lincoln Center and Japan’s Izumi Hall.
The group is the Quartet in Residence for the Sembrich Opera Museum in Bolton Landing and for the deBlasiis Music Series at The Hyde Collection. The members serve on the faculties of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs and The College of Saint Rose in Albany.
