Eastman School of Music Launches Volume II of ‘The Eastman Case Studies’

Developed at the Eastman School of Music’s Paul R. Judy Center for Applied Research, “The Eastman Case Studies” are designed for current and future leaders to develop the skills and perspectives for helping solve problems of musical arts organizations through situation analysis, recommendations, and discussion. Volume II explores specific business challenges of five leading arts institutions in North America: New World Symphony, National Sawdust, Texas Music Educators Association, San Francisco Girls Chorus, and The Industry, an experimental opera company based in Los Angeles. The first volume of case studies was released in July 2016.
Binghamton High School student accepted to top-tier music college

A dream has turned into a reality for one Binghamton High School senior. Binghamton High School senior Jonah Capani was accepted to the prestigious Eastman School of Music. “The whole time that I’ve known I wanted to go into music, I’ve wanted to go to Eastman,” said Capani. And Eastman is where Jonah will take his singing voice after graduating this year.

Jamie Baer Peterson and Keith Doll will be running on a joint ticket this November and look forward to sharing their vision for the future for New Providence and its residents. Jamie, who has lived in New Providence for 20 years, moved here from Minnesota with her husband. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and holds a Masters of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in Vocal Performance and Literature. This led to a very successful career as an opera singer and soprano soloist singing with major symphonies and opera companies throughout the United States, France and South Korea.
Centenary’s Hurley School of Music presents cello concert April 3

Cellist Christopher Hutton will perform at Centenary College as part of his “Reflecting BACH” recital project on Monday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium. The concert at Centenary’s Hurley School of Music is part of an extensive tour that includes eight states and several engagements in Hutton’s native New Zealand. . . . Hutton is the cellist of the Poinsett Piano Trio and is Associate Professor of Violoncello at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. He has performed in solo and chamber music recitals throughout Europe, the United States, and his home country of New Zealand, and has also performed with orchestras in both New Zealand and the United States. Hutton studied at Boston University and earned Master of Music and Doctor of Music Arts degrees at the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music.
Amherst Symphony to present Hollywood themed concert April 9

The Amherst Symphony Orchestra presents a concert by pianist Jason Kwak, a professor of piano at Texas State University School of Music, on April 9. . . . Born in Seoul, South Korea, Kwak began his piano studies at the age of four, according to his online biography. He has earned his degrees in piano performance from Eastman School of Music and the University of Texas at Austin.

Brought to you by Eastman School Professor Oliver Schneller and E.A.R.S. — the Eastman Audio Research Studio — the Eastman Mobile Acousmonium is a multi-dimensional experiment in sound with a participatory twist. An installation full of tubes, resonators, tiny loudspeakers, and exciters that twist, swing, and turn will fill the Memorial Art Gallery’s ballroom, and people can move freely through the project and explore the sounds. It’s up to the listener’s ear to have it make sense, keep it weird, or make it even weirder. You’ll find, there’s music everywhere and in everything.

Swang Lin is associate concertmaster of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and will be the featured soloist at the final Lewisville Lake Symphony concert of the 2016-17 season. . . . A native of Taipei, Taiwan, Swang received his degrees in violin performance from the Eastman School of Music and plays the “Eugenie, ex-Mackenzie” Antonio Stradivari violin (1685).
