Eastman will host several Fringe Festival performances in its venues.
The Eastman School of Music is once again part of the First Niagara Rochester Fringe Festival and will host a dozen shows in its venues beginning Friday, Sept. 16.

Friday, September 16: Patton Oswalt. One of today’s hottest comedians, Oswalt has five television specials and four critically acclaimed comedy albums, two of which were Grammy-nominated.

Saturday, September 17: English Country Dancers. Dancers in Regency Period costume demonstrate and teach several English country dances of the time.

Thursday, September 22: Scarred by the Somme. A commemoration of the 100th anniversary of one of the bloodiest engagements in WWI, the program shows images of events before, during, and after the battle accompanied by music written at the same time by Claude Debussy. This production by Table Top Opera, a chamber ensemble of Eastman faculty, students, alumni, and friends, considers how the Somme scarred people and landscapes in 1916, and how current conflicts have similar effects today.

Saturday, September 24: End of Time. The Eastman Percussion Ensemble under the direction of faculty member Michael Burritt will present an immersive sound experience. The program includes Burritt’s virtuoso marimba quartet “180” and the seminal work of Iannis Xenakis “persephassa.”

In addition, SoundExChange, an ensemble of Eastman alumni formed while the musicians were still students, will join BIODANCE to present a program titled “Anomaly” at the Rochester Museum & Science Center’s Strasenburgh Planetarium at 7 p.m. on September 15 and at 2 and 7 p.m. on Sept. 17.
