ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Representatives from some of the most renowned and successful artist-led contemporary ensembles will discuss using creativity, leadership, and vibrancy to enhance professional development during a one-day conference presented by the Paul R. Judy Center for Applied Research at the Eastman School of Music.
Titled “Innovate. Lead. Music.”, the conference will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and features Paola Prestini, Executive and Creative Director of the cutting-edge Brooklyn performance space National Sawdust, as the keynote speaker. The conference includes a performance by the Eastman Saxophone Project (ESP), a conductorless ensemble which presents its programs of specially arranged works entirely from memory and is also committed to presenting new works. Since its founding in 2010, ESP has toured China, performed in New York City and Washington, D.C., and been featured at national and regional conferences of the North American Saxophone Alliance.
James Doser, Director of Eastman’s Institute for Music Leadership, said, “This conference will bring together leaders, musicians, and educators from many of today’s most innovative ensembles and organizations, who will discuss specific strategies for supporting creative artists and performing ensembles. We expect the day to be filled with invigorating conversations and opportunities for speakers and attendees to meet and share ideas. Eastman, the Institute for Music Leadership, and the Paul R. Judy Center for Applied Research are excited to be hosting these important discussions, and we look forward to welcoming speakers and attendees to Rochester.”
The event will provide an excellent educational and networking opportunity for a range of individuals, including musicians, ensemble leaders, educators, arts administrators, students, arts entrepreneurs, and more.
