Tonight at 8 p.m. in Howard Hanson Hall, there is a unique opportunity to attend a concert put on by two of Eastman’s best studios. Carol Rodland’s viola studio has collaborated with the ESM Composition Department and Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez on a group of commissions for solo viola, viola and piano, and one piece for viola and voice. The students have been working on these creations all year.
For this concert there will be seven composers, seven violists, and seven new works by composers Alexander Leon, Jake Bellissimo, Ching-Shan Jessie, Joel David Chang, Zoe Yucong Balzun, Michael Wang, and Daniel Frazier, played by Sergio Munoz Leiva, Sean Mulligan, Erin Tang, Emily Cantrell, Chanmi Na, Ye Jin Goo, and Alex McGlaughlin.
It is not very often that two studios get together for this kind of collaboration, so come out and hear these new compositions for viola. This concert is free and open to the public!
