Audition Day Reflections, Part 2

Last week I talked about the Eastman Orientation Committee and how wonderful they were in making my audition very special four years ago. Today I’d like to talk more about the process.

Again, the audition period is full of anticipation. Every Friday when I am walking around the Cominsky Promenade I think to myself, “Wow, I’m glad I’m not them…” This line of thinking turns quickly into, “I’m sure that’s exactly how I looked four years ago.” While all this is true, Eastman audition days are indeed quite different from those at many other schools.

At other schools you are constantly nervous, often because you don’t know where to go. Audition booklets are very non-specific and you can be left wondering where the heck to be and at what time. Eastman’s Admissions Office, however, does a wonderful job putting together the audition day process so that nothing is left to chance.

The morning of my audition I knew exactly where to be. I listened to a welcome address by Dean Rossi, proceeded to my audition, and then had my interview. This simple procedure we all take for granted at Eastman is not always practiced at other places.

So for any people auditioning tomorrow who read this: four years from now, you might be writing the Eastman blogs, and you’ll have an opportunity to say something about your audition. Take the time to give thanks for the process we take for granted.
