Four departments at the Eastman School of Music are collaborating on a celebration of the 300th birthday of composer Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach from November 10 through 14. The five-day event will include paper presentations as well as recitals of the composer’s complete Prussian and Württemberg sonatas and other works for piano, clavichord, harpsichord, and organ.
Born in 1714, C.P.E. Bach was Johann Sebastian Bach’s most famous son. A respected harpsichordist and composer, C.P.E. Bach wrote orchestral and chamber music, oratorios, cantatas, passions, and numerous keyboard works.
The 300th anniversary celebration is presented by the Department of Organ, Sacred Music and Historical Keyboards, of Piano, of Musicology, and of Music Theory, with planning spearheaded by Associate Professor of Piano Enrico Elisi and Edoardo Bellotti, Associate Professor of Organ Harpsichord, and Improvisation. The event features five recitals that are free and open to the public:
