Grade schools used to talk of teaching the Three Rs: reading, (w)riting, and ‘rithmetic. For the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year at Eastman, talking about the Three Cs might be more appropriate. On this coming Tuesday, September 2, the following “C”s will be prominent:
CLASSES. International, freshman, and returning students are all here and registered, and classes officially begin on September 2.
CONVOCATION. This traditional start to Eastman’s year will take place September 2 at 2 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall. Jamal Rossi will give his first convocation address as the Joan and Martin Messinger Dean of the Eastman School of Music, and University of Rochester President Joel Seligman will also speak. The Eastman community will be welcomed back, honors and awards to students and faculty members will be noted. New faculty members will be introduced — and one of them, Associate Professor of Trombone Larry Zalkind, will perform.
CONCERTS. Single tickets for all Eastman concerts go on sale September 2 at 10 a.m. at the Eastman School Box Office in the East Wing, 433 East Main Street. And our Faculty Artist Series begins the next evening, September 3, with a recital by Professor of Guitar Nicholas Goluses. Faculty Artist Series tickets are FREE for University staff members, faculty members, and students with a University ID. This year we add a new Kodak Hall concert series, Eastman Presents, which starts on October 16 (during Eastman/Meliora Weekends) with Broadway and TV performer Jason Alexander.
