The United States Army Field Band pays Rochester a visit this weekend and will give a concert this Sunday afternoon, March 23, at 2 p.m. in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. The band will be joined by the Soldiers’ Chorus in a diverse program of Mozart, Verdi, Vaughan Williams, Gilbert and Sullivan, and much more. Eastman Wind Ensemble director Mark Scatterday will guest conduct the Army Band in Morton Gould’s American Salute, and an ensemble of Eastman students representing instrumental studios from across the school will perform Sousa’s El Capitan.
Scatterday will be leading quite a few fellow Eastman alumni who are members of the band: percussionists Tom Enokian and Rob Marino; clarinetists Reis McCullough, Jeremy Klenke, and Joel Klenke; harpist Melissa Dunne; hornist J.G. Miller; double bassist Joel Ciaccio; bassoonist Thad Crutcher; flutists Kasumi Leonard, Gina Sebastian, and Sean Owen; and oboist Sarah Schram-Borg.
