Tatiana Tchekina Recalled as “Loved by Students”

Tatiana Tchekina spent much of her time nurturing, guiding and inspiring young musicians, her students at the Eastman School of Music. “She didn’t just teach them notes or to play pieces, she shared her passion and gave them her artistry,” said Jean Barr, a longtime friend and colleague of Tchekina. “She was a real blessing. The President of the University of Rochester, Joel Seligman, says the search for a successor may look at candidates from around the world. Provost Peter Lennie will chair the search committee, and another committee that will interview final candidates will be chaired by Bob Witmer, a former chairman of the U of R Board of Trustees, and Renee Fleming, the famed soprano and Eastman School grad who grew up in Churchville, will also be on that committee.
Jamal Rossi had earlier been appointed to be the dean of the Eastman School at least until the conclusion of the search. (Also reported by WHEC)

Hanson, a Nebraska native who became director of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester in 1924, is credited with forging the Eastman School into one of is credited with forging the Eastman School into one of the finest conservatories in the nation.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House will present a holiday concert featuring three of the region’s favorite performing acts on Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Songs for a Winter Night will feature Adirondack musicians Dan Berggren, Dan Duggan and Peggy Lynn, the Buffalo duo Kindred and Westfield’s Kent and Nannette Knappenberger in a special concert of holiday music.
Kent and Nannette Knappenberger have been performing together for more than 20 years – even longer than they’ve been married! Kent has a graduate degree in harp from the Eastman School of Music and saxophone and harp degrees from SUNY Fredonia.
