Miles Woods
STUDENT PROFILE
Miles Woods is a 19-year-old horn player born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee who currently attends the Eastman School of Music in Rochester New York. Miles currently studies under Professor Peter Kurau. He previously studied with Patrick Walle (Associate Principal and 3rd Horn Nashville Symphony) who also studied under Professor Kurau at the Eastman School. Miles is an alumni of the Nashville Symphony’s Accelerando Program which creates professional opportunities for musicians from ethnic communities underrepresented in today’s orchestras. He was also was a member of The Blair School’s youth symphony’s from 7th to 12th grade. Miles has performed with a number of ensembles including Equity Arc’s National Pathways Festival Orchestra, the Interlochen Philharmonic Orchestra at Interlochen Arts Camp, and the Belmont Summer Wind Ensemble just to name a few. In the summer of 2023, Miles played Principal Horn on Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto and Assisted on Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique with the National Youth Orchestra of the United States for their tour of America. Miles is also very active in his community at Eastman as he is the President of Eastman’s Black Student Union.
