Building a World-Class Piano Facility
Faced with a fleet of aging pianos that are in constant use throughout the day and night, the Eastman School of Music has set forth a 10-year plan to significantly upgrade its piano collection and to establish a system for the cyclical replacement and rebuilding of pianos. As part of this initiative, the Eastman School will acquire high quality grand pianos for studios and practice rooms, offering Eastman students the finest of instruments on which to train. The Eastman School plans to raise a minimum of $2.5 million in outright funds to purchase these new instruments. The Eastman School is also accepting good condition used Steinway grand pianos as gifts in kind. In addition to securing new pianos, the Eastman School plans to build a $1.5 million endowment that will provide perpetual funding for the maintenance and replacement of piano stock, ensuring that the School's piano collection is always in top form. The ultimate goal of this piano project is to build and maintain a world-class piano facility that will enrich the educational experience of Eastman students, preparing them for their careers as performing musicians.
