Welcome to Summer at Eastman! In today's challenging economic times, investing in your future by participating in the world-class courses, institutes and programs at the Eastman School of Music is an excellent career decision. As a summer student, you will be part of a community of distinguished musicians, teachers, and scholars who are actively engaged in the art of music. George Eastman founded the Eastman School of Music just over 85 years ago, dedicating it to the enrichment of the Rochester community. Mr. Eastman’s dream has grown into a school that is now renowned on the world’s stage as a provider of excellence in music performance, scholarship, and education.
The exceptional quality of our musical and academic faculty and the achievements of our graduates have produced musicians who are Pulitzer Prize-winning composers, performers in major orchestras, scholars, rock and jazz performers, chamber music and world music performers, dynamic educators, arts managers, and innovative musical entrepreneurs. Eastman’s Institute for Music Leadership (IML) offers courses, internships and a variety of activities that equip our students to be leaders in the culture and marketplace for professional music. Through the IML’s Arts Leadership Program, Eastman students and faculty are designing new courses and strategies to reach out to and educate new audiences. As a community we are exploring the roles of musicians and music in society. Our students and faculty share a sense of initiative and leadership for the future of musical culture. This summer will also contribute to Eastman's history as the construction continues ont he new addition to the Eastman Theatre complex.
Whether you are a current Eastman undergraduate or graduate student, a secondary school student, a devoted amateur musician, a professional musician, or a music teacher, you will find challenges and excitement in Eastman’s summer offerings of collegiate courses, institutes, and Community Music School programs.
