The Gibbs Street Connection offers a variety of exciting concerts from faculty members and ensembles of the Eastman School of Music (ESM) and from the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO).

Saturday, November 22 - RPO
Passionate Piano
18th, 19th, and 20th-century classics: pianist Andrew von Oeyen plays Liszt’s Totentanz; guest conductor Andrew Grams leads Haydn’s Symphony No. 49 and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra.
8 p.m., Eastman Theatre

Saturday, January 24 - RPO
Shostakovich's Defiant Fifth
RPO principal Rebecca Gilbert solos in Carl Nielsen’s quirky Flute Concerto; guest conductor Jahja Ling leads Shostakovich’s powerful Fifth Symphony and the Prelude to Mussorgsky’s opera Khovantschina.

Thursday, February 5 - ESM
Eastman Chamber Percussion Ensemble
The Eastman Chamber Percussion Ensemble’s repertory contains music spanning the entire history of the existence of the percussion ensemble in America, from the 1920's to the present.

Wednesday, February 11 - ESM
Eastman Jazz Ensemble
Bill Dobbins leads, with a guest artist. The Eastman Jazz Ensemble has been recognized as one of the world's premier collegiate jazz performing organizations for three decades.

Saturday, March 21 - RPO
Haydn's Bicentennial
As part of the 200th anniversary of Haydn’s death, Christopher Seaman conducts his great oratorio The Creation, with the Eastman-Rochester Chorus and soloists Barbara Shrivis, Michael Colvin, and Stephen Powell.

Sunday, April 5 - ESM
Eastman Opera Theatre
Mozart: Le Nozze di Figaro
Mozart and Da Ponte’s study of a “crazy day” in an aristocratic Spanish home is an amorous romp and a profound character study, still fresh after 250 years of popularity. Sung in Italian with English supertitles.

Schumann & Brahms
Christopher Seaman conducts two masterpieces of German Romanticism: Schumann’s imaginative Symphony No. 4, and Brahms’s towering Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist John Lill.

Monday, April 27 - ESM
Eastman World Music Series
Gamelan Lila Muni
Lila Muni (Heavenly Sound) is a Balinese percussion ensemble (gamelan) comprising Eastman students, faculty, and staff, and members of the Rochester community. Its annual concert combines traditional and contemporary music and ceremonial dances.

Saturday, May 9 - RPO
Rachmaninoff's Second
Guest conductor Yoav Talmi leads one of the great Russian symphonies, Rachmaninoff’s Second, and his own composition The Double Marriage of Figaro; Stefan Jackim performs Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4.
8 p.m., Eastman Theatre
