Funded by a gift of $1.2 million from the Symphony Orchestra Institute (founded in 1994 by Paul R. Judy), the Eastman School of Music has established the Orchestra Musician Forum. The mission of the OMF is to enhance the professional development and broaden the perspectives of musicians who are participants in North American symphony orchestras and other musical arts organizations.

The first major project of the OMF was to develop an innovative and informative website designed to offer a range of educational and informational services contributing to professional growth, personal fulfillment, career advancement, job satisfaction, and organizational participation of career musicians in North America symphony orchestra organizations.

On April 10th, 2006, the OMF unveiled Polyphonic.org, the ultimate online companion for today's professional orchestral musician. Key features of the site include:

  • Articles by industry leaders on issues related to professional orchestral musicians
  • Engaging interviews with orchestral musicians and other music professionals
  • Daily orchestra news feeds and blogs
  • Orchestra Spotlights, profiling North American orchestras
  • Virtual public discussions on key issues
  • Much, much more!

While targeted to the professional orchestral musician, it will also be a valuable tool for music students who are considering an orchestral career.
