Graduate Policy on Arts Leadership Program Course Credits

Graduate students are encouraged to explore ALP (ALC) courses. All graduate students can take ALP courses for free by registering at the ALC 400 level. Graduate students in certain instances may also wish or be required to register for other than the ALC 400 level and pay regular tuition charges.  For additional information on this policy and further details on whether or not a course may be used to fulfill certificate, diploma, or degree requirements, please see below.

When did you matriculate?

New policies were instituted in Fall 2006 for DMA's and Fall 2007 for MM's. Please be sure to review the policy that is applicable to you.

The New Policy
DMA students who matriculated Fall 2006 or after
MM Students who matriculated Fall 2007 or after

  • All graduate students can take ALP courses for free by registering at the ALC 400 level. Courses at the 400 level will not count towards your degree requirements, however, you are expected to do the work and you will receive a grade.
  • Some ALC courses may be used to fulfill both degree requirements and Certificate and Diploma program requirements. In order to fulfill requirements in both areas, the ALC course must be cross-listed in an academic department and carry regular tuition charges. (e.g., MUE 504/ ALC 222)
  • ALC courses that are not cross-listed may be used to fulfill Certificate or Diploma program requirements at no charge.
  • ALC courses taken at the 400-level may be used to bring the student to full-time status without incurring a tuition charge.
