Transportation

The shuttle between Eastman and the River Campus is a regularly scheduled bus route of the city transit service (see Bus Schedules). It is free to all students with University of Rochester IDs. The distance to the River Campus is approximately three miles. Because Eastman classes begin on the half-hour and the River Campus classes begin on the hour, a minimum amount of time is used in coordinating classes between the two campuses.

A lively "commuter scene" brings Eastman students to the River Campus for courses selected there, and the River Campus students to Eastman for concerts, lessons, and selected courses. (Note that while Eastman degree programs are self-contained in our downtown location, many Eastman students - graduate and undergraduate - take advantage of the wide array of courses offered on the main campus, and research opportunities available in UR's Rush Rhees Library.)

Eastman is a three-minute walk from the Greyhound Bus Terminal and a short cab ride from the Amtrak Station. The Greater Rochester International Airport is 15-20 minutes away by car or taxi, or by city bus.

Students who have cars should plan to pay for garage parking, as our downtown location makes long-term street parking impractical. We recommend that freshmen not bring cars until they are comfortable in the city and know that they will use the vehicle enough to justify the cost of parking.  For those students who do not have a car, the city bus system can be an easy way to get to almost any place in the city (see Schedules and Maps).
