Check Your Email Quota Usage

Every mailbox on the Exchange server (every @esm.rochester.edu email address) has a quota limit that determines how much storage space is available to that account. If the quota limit is exceeded, the person using that account will not be able to send any outgoing email until they free up space on the server by deleting emails or moving them off of the server and into Personal Folders. The following steps describe how to view your current quota usage.

  1. Make sure that the Folder List is enabled in Outlook. Click on the View menu and select Folder List if it is not.

  2. Right-click on the top item in the in the Folder List (Outlook Today) and select Properties.
  3. Click on the Folder Size... button in the Properties window.
  4. The Total Size line shows the total amount of space (in kilobytes) that you are using on the email server. Divide that number by 1,000 to determine the amount in megabytes that you have used against your 200 megabyte limit.
