Apply Rules to Incoming Email
Mail rules are a way of telling Outlook to automatically perform actions on incoming email messages when they match certain criteria. For example, you can create a rule to automatically move any messages from a certain person into a separate folder.
Create a rule
- Select Inbox in the Folder List.

- Click on the Tools menu, then Rules Wizard...
- Click the New... button.
- Follow the instructions in the Rules Wizard.
- If you want to apply the newly created rule to messages that you have already received, select the Run this rule now on messages already in "Inbox" checkbox in the last page of the Rules Wizard.
Modify a rule
- Select Inbox in the Folder List.
- Click on the Tools menu, then Rules Wizard...
- In the Apply rules in the following order: box, select the rule that you want to modify.
- Click the Modify... button.
- Follow the instructions in the Rules Wizard.
