How to Change Passwords

What passwords are for what use?

Active Directory Account: Used to login to Windows XP/Vista computers, MacOS X 10.3/10.4 computers, and your @esm.rochester.edu e-mail.

NetID: Used to access various University systems, including HRMS & VPN.

Why do I have so many passwords?

We have tried to centralize authentication wherever possible to reduce the amount of accounts and passwords that users need to keep track of. For example, Windows and Mac computers and the Exchange e-mail system use the same account for authentication.

Password Requirements

Passwords must be at least 8 characters long and contain 3 of 4 of the following: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and punctuation.
