Applying to the PHD Degree Program
The application for the PhD degree program requires the submission of a number of supplemental forms and materials (some for the purpose of prescreening applicants). All PhD applicants should plan on coming to Rochester to interview. We make every effort to notify applicants who are prescreened as to whether or not they are invited to Rochester in sufficient time to make economical travel arrangements. However, we strongly recommend that applicants do not confirm travel arrangements until they have been invited. Note that some departments set aside special interview dates outside of the regular audition dates listed on the application form.
Specific application and interview requirements by major are detailed in this section. Note that tuition scholarships to graduate students come in the form of graduate awards. Some awards require additional auditions or interviews; these are scheduled on the same day as the interview for the major, if the applicant has successfully passed the prescreening review. More information on graduate awards may be found in the section on Financial Aid.
