Class time: Saturdays, 12 p.m.-1 p.m.

 

Prerequisite

NYSSMA Level 4 to 6 or equivalent, audition and permission of instructor required.

 

Topics Covered

  • Individual violin performance skills

  • Different musical styles from baroque to contemporary

  • orchestral excerpts

  • Techniques to lead chamber / ensemble performance

  

Course Goal

The students will:

  • Cooperate and interact with classmates in different formats, including the actual playing, discussions, critics, etc.

  • Practice the leadership abilities by leading the performance or group discussion

  • Improve themselves by observing and learning from others

  • Obtain stronger performance techniques on bowings, vibrato, intonation, rhythm, and sight-reading, etc.

  • Establish the essential abilities to analyze and interpret the notation, and the styles of the music.

  • Know the variety of the music repertoire related to the performance technique.

  • Develops flexibility, articulation, and strength for their music path

 

Assignments/Assessments

  • Discography listening as assigned

  • Technical practice as instructed

  • Topic Discussion in classroom

  • Score reading, analyzing with detailed marks and explanation

  • Attend the class recitals / the ECMS events

 

Grading

80% Class attendance, assignment and technical practice

        in each class

20% concert / class recital and ECMS performance events

Student/parent should contact the teacher before you must miss a class.
