Building relationships with your community is a vital skill for musicians to develop new audiences and grow the impact of their artistry. Our newly formed “AMP Up” grant, supported by Dean Sheeran in collaboration with Eastman’s Institute for Music Leadership, is a chance for Eastman students to do just that — engage our University and broader Rochester communities through their music. 
The first AMP Up recipient is violist Angela Rubin, who has opted to promote her upcoming DMA recital with the funds. Join her in Kilbourn Hall this Sunday, November 24 at 8:30 PM for a moving program of all-female composers.

It is an honor to have internationally acclaimed composer and flutist Valerie Coleman in residence with us this week! She joins us as the 2024 Glenn E. Watkins Lecture Series guest speaker. While visiting Eastman, Coleman is spending time with undergraduate and graduate students across departments. From group coaching sessions and class appearances to a ‘meet and greet’ at the George Walker Center for Equity and Inclusion in Music, Eastman’s students will have ample access to Coleman’s expertise as an artist and educator.

At 12:30 PM today (11/7) she is hosting a public chamber music masterclass in Hatch Recital Hall. See you there!

In one week, on November 6, the Eastman Wind Ensemble will perform works by three of the most prominent contemporary voices in music for the wind ensemble: Joel Puckett, Joseph Schwantner, and John Mackey—all of whom have connections to Eastman!

This concert also features Dovas Lietuvninkas ’16E as trumpet soloist (pictured). Since graduating from Eastman, Lietuvninkas has had a varied and fascinating start to his career. We recently reconnected with him to talk about his journey across the world and this upcoming performance!

FIRST LOOK at Eastman Opera Theatre’s production of “Silent Light,” a new foley opera by composer Paola Prestini and librettist Royce Vavrek.

Opening on Halloween night and running through the weekend, this opera is unlike any that you’ve seen from EOT. Facing themes of infidelity, crisis of conscience, and self-destruction, it delves into the emotional landscape of a Mennonite community in northern Mexico. This production is incredibly immersive, utilizing light and sound to place the audience within the scenes.
